McIntosh Arts & Crafts - Exclusive Furniture Design in North Yorkshire.

The aim of McIntosh Arts & Crafts is to offer a design and manufacturing service, primarily for furniture but also encompassing metal work, ceramics and textiles.
Although my own inspiration comes from the historical icons such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Voysey, Ambrose Heal and most especially Charles Rennie Mackintosh, all of them with distinctive styles, Arts and Crafts is not so much a definite style having always been associated with reactionary ideals. Pugin set out to dispense with the excessive and superfluous decoration of Victorian design whilst William Morris and the firm revolted against the shoddy design and manufacture of the industrial age.

My wish is to reintroduce character into furniture. To take even the most utilitarian and transform each item into a wonderful expression of it's purpose, material and construction. Most importantly is my aim to invest each design with something of the personality of the owner or to reflect a personal theme.

My furniture is designed to be extremely practical and fit for purpose. It is made by two high quality firms based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire using traditional craft skills as well as modern technology. I design for empathy with contemporary interiors but the intrinsic character of my furniture allows it to sit happily alongside traditional, even antique furniture. It is furniture you will adore looking at and owning, that will be a pleasure to use and enjoy and will be around to pass into family history.

I look forward to designing for you.
